Tween Dungeons & Dragons Group (Virtual)

A therapist-led D&D group for tweens, run online — adventure, teamwork, and social-emotional growth from anywhere in Ontario.

What this group is

A facilitated Dungeons & Dragons group built for tweens, run entirely online. A therapist guides the campaign, so beneath the dice and storytelling, every session quietly supports social and emotional growth — in a format tweens actually want to show up for.

Why it works

Playing D&D asks tweens to practise the very skills that matter most off the page:

  • Communication, collaboration, and working as a team
  • Perspective-taking and reading social cues
  • Flexible thinking and problem-solving under pressure
  • Noticing and regulating emotions as the story shifts
  • Confidence, belonging, and genuine peer connection

What to expect

Small groups, therapist-facilitated, with no experience needed — characters, dice, and everything else are provided. This group runs entirely online, so tweens can join from anywhere in Ontario.

Dungeons & Dragons Social-Emotional Group

A small, therapist-led tabletop adventure where tweens grow social and emotional skills through collaborative play.

New to Dungeons & Dragons? Here's what it is

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is the world's best-known tabletop role-playing game — first created in 1974 and played happily by millions ever since. There's no screen and no winning or losing. Players sit around a table and build a story together: each child creates a character, a guide called the “Dungeon Master” sets the scene, and the group decides what to do next, with a roll of the dice adding suspense and surprise.

Think of it as collaborative, imaginative storytelling — part improv, part puzzle-solving, part hanging out with friends. Over the last decade it's had a huge resurgence, with a warm, welcoming culture around it that's especially good for kids who light up around imagination, strategy, and connection.

What this group is

This is a small, facilitated Dungeons & Dragons group where tweens build real social and emotional skills through collaborative storytelling and play. A therapist guides the adventure, so beneath the dice and characters, every session is quietly therapeutic — the play is the vehicle, and connection and growth are the goal.

Why Dungeons & Dragons works

D&D is one of the most naturally therapeutic games there is. To play, tweens practise exactly the skills that can be hardest to build in everyday life:

  • Teamwork and cooperation toward a shared goal
  • Turn-taking, patience, and listening
  • Perspective-taking — stepping into a character and considering others' choices
  • Flexible thinking and creative problem-solving when the plan changes
  • Naming and managing big feelings as the story unfolds
  • Social confidence, in a low-pressure space where it's safe to try

Because it’s genuinely fun, tweens stay engaged and motivated — often without realising how much they’re growing along the way.

What to expect

Groups are kept small so everyone has plenty of room to take part. No experience is needed — characters, dice, and everything else are provided, and the therapist shapes each session around the group. Tweens step into a shared story and, with gentle facilitation, practise the skills above as they play.

Tween Art-Based Psychotherapy Group

A client-led, art-based psychotherapy group for grades 6–8 — process over product, with self-regulation at its heart.

What this group is

A client-led, art-based psychotherapy group designed for students in grades 6–8. The art stays open-ended and the focus stays on the process, giving tweens a gentle, hands-on way to work on themselves.

What we explore

With scaffolding suited to this age, members begin to notice their interoceptive and emotional states, what calms and builds capacity, and to explore identity, needs awareness, and self-advocacy — all in service of self-regulation, whether the struggle is low mood, anxiety, self-harm urges, anger, or sensory overwhelm.

What to expect

An eight-week program on Sunday afternoons, small and steady, with all materials provided. Come as you are — there’s no wrong way to create.
