Individual Therapy

One-to-one, neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy for children, teens, and the parents raising them — in person in Welland or online across Ontario. We start with who you already are, not a problem to fix, and build from there.

Therapy for children

For younger children, therapy looks like play, art, and gentle conversation — the languages kids actually use. We help children make sense of big feelings, worries, and the things that feel too hard to say out loud, at a pace that feels safe. Sessions are warm and unhurried, and we build on the strengths your child already has rather than trying to change who they are.

How therapy can help:

  • Build emotional regulation and calm big feelings
  • Strengthen self-control and manage impulses
  • Grow confidence and self-esteem
  • Improve communication and social skills
  • Process worries, fears, and hard experiences
  • Strengthen the parent–child relationship

Therapy for teens

Teens get a space that respects their autonomy and meets them where they are — no lectures, no agenda to fix them. We work with anxiety, low mood, identity, school distress, friendships, and the weight of growing up while still figuring out who you are. Drawing on approaches like CBT and DBT within a relational, trauma-informed lens, we help teens build real skills and a steadier sense of themselves.

How therapy can help:

  • Manage anxiety, low mood, and stress
  • Build emotional regulation and distress tolerance
  • Strengthen self-esteem and a steadier sense of identity
  • Improve communication and relationships
  • Develop healthy coping skills and self-control
  • Navigate school pressure, friendships, and big transitions

Support for parents

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs there is — often without a map, and harder still when your child’s mind works differently. Individual sessions give parents practical, compassionate support: understanding the need underneath the behaviour, lowering conflict at home, and caring for yourself through burnout. This is therapy and coaching for the grown-ups holding it all together — whether or not your child is also in our care.

How therapy can help:

  • Understand the need underneath your child’s behaviour
  • Reduce conflict and stress at home
  • Strengthen the parent–child relationship
  • Build practical, confidence-boosting strategies
  • Care for your own wellbeing and prevent burnout
  • Feel more supported, and less alone

How we work

We match the approach to the person, not the other way around. Depending on what helps, that can include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), play therapy, art therapy, mindfulness, and parent coaching — always within a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma- and nervous-system-informed frame. Behaviour makes sense once you understand the nervous system underneath it, and that’s where we start.
